Collings (2009) 0002HG (German Spruce)
The 12-fret 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it’s the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance. Along with the usual options in woods, binding, and inlay , it is also available with a graceful cutaway.

Collings (2009) CJ (Natural)
The Collings Jumbo, or CJ, is our version of the classic slope-shouldered dreadnought, a shape that has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years. While the CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional dreadnought, it has a distinctly different tone. Despite its large size this model works well with the optional shorter string scale, resulting in a somewhat percussive bottom end ideal for acoustic blues or other styles that benefit from a more controlled bass response. Of all the Collings body shapes, this is the one most often requested with a sunburst top finish, and the wide range of wood options, neck widths, and string scales allow the CJ to be many different guitars to a wide variety of players.
Collings (2009) D2HA (Adirondack Spruce)
The square-shouldered 14-fret dreadnought is the most popular steel-string acoustic guitar body shape in the world. While Collings is certainly not the first to build them, we bring a new tonal clarity to the depth and warmth usually associated with such a large, deep-bodied guitar. Although its bass response makes the dreadnought ideal for vocal accompaniment, Collings versions are also often employed by bluegrass flatpickers who must compete with inherently louder instruments such as banjos and fiddles. The wide range of woods and neck sizes offered allow dreadnought fans to find a Collings model ideally suited to their playing style and tonal preference.
Features Include:
- Custom Select Adirondack spruce top
- East Indian rosewood back and sides
- Grained ivoroid binding
- Herringbone trim with matching backstrip
- Cross-cut grained ivoroid and wood nitrate strip rosette
- Pre-war scalloped bracing
- Tortoise-style pickguard

- Mother-of-pearl Collings logo
- Ebony fingerboard and bridge
- Traditional diamond and square fingerboard inlays
- Fully adjustable truss rod

Collings (2009) OM2HG (German Spruce)
‘OM’ stands for “Orchestra Model,” but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Yet flatpickers also find it appealing, and when the graceful cutaway is added these OMs are often used by lead players who routinely explore all 20 frets much as they would on an electric guitar. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.
Custom Features Include:
- Select German spruce top
- 1 3/4 nut width

Froggy Bottom (2009) 00 Prototype Tom Humphrey Memorial
Some Background
“For three years in the early 70s, the two young guys actually building the guitars in the renowed NY workshop of Michael Gurian were Thomas Humphrey and Michael Millard. Both went on to become significant builders over the next four decades, Humphrey in the world of the classical guitar, Millard in the steel-string realm. Gurian, of course, remains an iconic figure in the world of stringed instruments.
In 2008, a reunion was arranged in the form of a “luthier’s cruise”, the idea of a guitarist David Johnson. Lutherie legend Gurian, his two disciples and their families were to be the guests of honor on a week-long cruise from Seattle to Alaska and back. Tragically, Thomas Humphrey died of a heart attack on April 2008 and that reunion never happened. He left behind a family unable to benefit financially from all he had given to the world of the guitar.
Many saw Humphrey as a fabulously successful luthier whose “Millennium” design transformed the world of the classical guitar. Unnoticed, perhaps, were the years of struggle before his innovative ideas became broadly acknowledged as the brilliant work they were.
After Tom Humphrey’s death, Millard asked permission of his wife, Martha Costa Humphrey, to build a guitar honoring her husband and as a benefit for the Humphrey family. She quietly agreed to allow this, insisting that the wood for the project come from Tom’s supply of Brazilian rosewood. The wood she offered was purchased by her husband in 1974 and was dated from 1929.
The guitar built served as the prototype for the new Froggy Bottom concert size instrument, a traditionally shaped 00. The Froggy Bottom team of Millard, Eric Goodenough, M.L. Raymond and engraver Petria Mitchell completed the guitar in August, 2009. Millard approached Rudy Pensa and Gordon French of Rudy’s Music in New York City about selling the guitar. Pensa, both generous and keenly appreciative of Humphrey’s legacy, offered to sell the guitar and graciously refused any commission for doing so.”

Froggy Bottom (2009) B 12 Custom 12-string Baritone
This is one unique instrument! a 12 fret Jumbo 12 string, with a 26” scale length. This guitar was designed to be tuned at least a full step down, but we played it tuned down as low as B and it roars!
The model B-12 has a lower bout of 16.5” and a depth of 4.5” giving it plenty of power, but with a balance we’ve come to expect from 12-fret guitars. The figured walnut back and sides were described by the Froggy Bottom boys as “the best they’ve ever seen!”.
The top is Red Spruce, the fretboard and bridge and of ebony.
The appointments are understated but beautiful. The body is bound in figured maple, with black and white purffling around the top edge, the simple dot fretboard markers are of abalone to match the frog headstock inlay. The rosette and back-strip are multicolored chevron.
The perfect 12 string for fans of Lead Belly & Willie McTell!
With Hardshell case!
Froggy Bottom (2009) F14 Deluxe
Model F evolved out of conversions of Martin arch tops in the 1960’s New York shop of Matt Umanov. Those early conversions demonstrated the virtues of reducing the body volume of larger instruments, and clearly altered the course of contemporary flat top guitar design. The shallowness of the body (4 1/8” maximum) of an F guitar makes it very comfortable to play, and contributes to the guitar’s exceptional string-to-string balance, clarity, and projection.
With:
- Adirondack Spruce Top
- East Indian Rosewood back & sides

Froggy Bottom (2009) L-12 Deluxe Parlor
The model L, with a 13” wide lower bout, is the smallest guitar in the Froggy Bottom family. Like our P-12 and P-14 models, this is a lot of guitar in a small package. While we’ve never seen a parlor guitar that’s a proverbial “banjo killer” played without amplification, our parlor guitars have a well earned reputation for exceptional tone AND volume. We’ve never had to make excuses for their small size. The new Model L is no exception.
While it’s standard 24.75” scale length gives this little guitar a lot of strength without sacrificing tonal complexity, its small body size also allows us some very interesting possibilities. Shortening the scale a bit make both tenor and high-strung options very enticing.
Beautiful old growth Brazilian rosewood back & sides. Adirondack Spruce top. Ebony fretboard and pyramid bridge. Curly maple Binding. Mahogany neck w/ Brazilian peghead veneer. Abalone rosette, back-strip, headstock logo and notch diamond fretboard inlays w/ Skrimshaw on heel.
Froggy Bottom (2009) P-12 Deluxe
The Froggy Bottom Parlor is a big guitar in a little package. With extremely light bracing and a warm, balanced voice, the 12-fret Parlor guitar is one of our most popular models. Even played with bare fingers, these instruments deliver a sweet, balanced tone and wide dynamic range with sparkling highs and a dramatic bass response.

Froggy Bottom (2009) SJ Limited
Some backround on this amazing model from Froggy Bottom:
Model SJ
“One afternoon in 1968, I watched a drunken sailor with a pillow case slung over his shoulder stagger into a pawn shop in New London, CT. Since the bag on his shoulder was very guitar-like, as soon as he emerged counting his money, I went into the shop to see what he’d sold. After twenty minutes of bickering, I emerged with a very well worn twenty year old Gibson SJ. As I already had a guitar I loved, the SJ was only around for a couple of months, but almost as soon as I’d sold it to a friend, I was sorry. Forty years later, the friend still has that guitar, and it is still one of the very best guitars I have ever known.
In recent times older instruments of this short scale design have become extremely popular, and their value has soared. While over the years we have built a few one-off commissioned SJ-type guitars, we’ve now decided to add this design to our roster of formal models.
As we built the prototype of this model we did our best to photograph each step in the process and uploaded images of each day’s accomplishments to a blog. We’ve reworked that so you can see this guitar from start to finish in our Model SJ Blog Revisited. “

The 25 was often thought of as THE Lowden. Nowadays with many more new models it is not possible to say which would be THE Lowden, but the 25 has character in bags. It is rich, full-bodied, warm and powerful.
In the O version it has complexity as well, great for percussive strumming, flat picking and fingerpicking.

‘“I first made the 38 back in 1976 for a friend of mine Alastair Burke. Normally I don’t use much shell inlays in my guitars but with this model I’ve indulged a little! Subtle use of leaf shaped abalone fingerboard inlays and soundboard purfling combine with the ideal choice of reclaimed Brazilian rosewood and a cedar top. One of my preferred choices now!” – George Lowden

Santa Cruz (2009) OM/PW
The OM Pre-War Model is designed with many of the features in bracing and tone that the emerging singer-songwriter, the working musician, or a serious amateur will find desirable at a price before unheard of in guitars of this caliber.
The advanced X braces, which is the bracing pattern “Pre-War” refers to, is a good tonal option for those using the guitar for smaller accompaniment or rhythm. This style bracing gives the smaller bodied OM an incredible presence and bass response, yet retains a good balance with strong midrange and bright powerful response.

Santa Cruz (2010) 1929 00 (Mahogany)
Santa Cruz Guitar Company introduces an exceptional guitar design that honors the simple and elegant presence of instruments made for players enduring the Great Depression of 1929. To accomplish this noble goal, the all Mahogany Model Nineteen Twenty-Nine’s design is simple and refined. A timely marriage of extraordinary lutherie and soul comforting simplicity.
Santa Cruz H-13 (Sunburst)
(with Sitka Spruce top in stock)
With its player-driven design that has 13 frets clear of the body, plus special soundhole and bridge locations, Santa Cruz Guitar Company’s H 13 Fret joins the SCGC H lineup with a sweet tone that capitalizes upon the best attributes of a 12-fret’s resonance and a 14-fret’s access. As a result, it’s ideally suited to fingerpicking, coaxing the sonic character of each note while projecting an overall tonal depth.
Despite its small appearance, the H 13 Fret employs a body depth approaching that of a much larger dreadnought-sized guitar, producing extra volume and bass support to bolster its rich tone. Its comfortable size and complex tonal characteristics make it especially appealing to traditional players, soloists, and recording artists who demand maximum warmth and tonal versatility.
Features of the handcrafted H 13 Fret include a specially hand-tuned bracing system beneath its top-grade Adirondack spruce top, a slotted headstock for classic style and enhanced string angle and sustain, and an ebony 1” x 6” pyramid rectangular bridge. The sides and back are select mahogany, and the mahogany neck features an ebony fingerboard with a total of 19 frets. An ebony headstock overlay and the wide ebony bridge with pyramid-style detailing add to the classic appearance. Guitar comes with hard shell case.
Santa Cruz OMPW Custom Cutaway (Natural)

Taylor (2009) 35th Anniversary 12-fret (Koa)
For those unfamiliar with a 12-fret guitar, the “12” refers to the number of frets from the nut to the edge of the guitar body. The design traces back to the period that preceded steel-string acoustics. As steel-string players craved access to higher notes on the fretboard, the 12-fret design gave way to the 14-fret, although classical guitars have in many cases carried on the 12-fret tradition (our nylon-string Grand Concerts feature a 12-fret design). The vintage 12-fret design also enjoyed a renaissance among steel-string players as acoustic fingerstyle enjoyed a resurgence in the 1980s.
Although our 12-fret model incorporates a Grand Concert body and standard GC bracing, it sounds dramatically different from our GC. One reason is the reorientation of the neck, body and bridge in relation to each other (the bridge, for one, is shifted farther back on the lower bout). The change in body geometry translates into a unique, modern-vintage tonal flavor.
“This is probably the warmest Taylor I’ve ever heard,” Bob Taylor raved after playing it. “The mid-tones are so beautiful. It’s a tone that differs from our regular GC with its distinctive snap and brilliance. It’s also loud. The whole experience of playing it is mesmerizing.”
The 12-fret model features gorgeous AA-grade Hawaiian koa for the back and sides, an Engelmann spruce top, a slotted peghead with a koa backstrap, green heart abalone rosette and trim on the top and back, a bone nut and saddle, and the ES pickup.
Taylor (2009) 35th Anniversary Baritone (Sunburst)
The beauty of a baritone guitar compared to simply tuning down is that a baritone’s longer scale length (in our case, 27 inches compared to our standard 25.5 or short-scale 24 7/8) allows one to play in a lower register, yet maintain normal string tension. Baritones have been used by artists from Dave Matthews (we made him a pseudo-baritone guitar several years ago) to Duane Eddy to Ani DiFranco. A baritone will appeal to anyone looking for a deeper guitar tone, including singer-songwriters who find the upper register of certain songs to be a stretch for their vocals. Our 35th anniversary baritone is tuned to B (B E A D F# B). To help achieve a low, robust sound, we chose the GS shape and a wood pairing of Indian rosewood, known for its strong bass response, and Sitka spruce. Strummers who favor a potent, girthy sound and like to detune will love them. The baritone also features a tobacco sunburst top, Indian rosewood binding, an abalone rosette, Taylor gold tuners, a Venetian cutaway and the ES pickup.

Taylor (2009) DN3
Booming bass and articulate mids that dare you to dig in.
The Taylor DN3 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar delivers signature Taylor performance, quality, and value. The DN3 Guitar is a great introduction to the solid-wood Taylor experience. The Taylor DN3 has a back and sides made of sapele, and a Sitka spruce top to create a rich tonal tapestry. Appointments include a bound ebony neck, chrome plated tuners, and an Indian rosewood headstock overlay. Simple, traditional styling and renowned Taylor craftsmanship make this one of their most popular models.
The traditional shape and sound have been refined to blend power with a more balanced response Bob Taylor launched his career crafting Dreadnoughts, working with shapes he inherited from Sam Radding, the owner of the American Dream guitar shop, where he and Taylor co-founder Kurt Listug got their start. The legacy of this shape carried a powerful, traditional sound that Bob gradually reworked into a refined Taylor tone and more smoothly contoured look. The rosewood/spruce 810 became a Taylor stalwart and was for many years Bob s preferred model, favored for its robust tone and understated, workmanlike aesthetic. In 2003 the Dread underwent a major revoicing to give it a more competitive identity among old school flatpickers. A cannon, it boasted 50 percent more volume (which also meant more dynamic range), yielded an appreciably stronger bass response, and let out a hearty growl when pickers dug in, all without upsetting Taylor s sonic balance. As Bob put it during the revoicing process: I want to be able to play a Dreadnought on the bass strings and then on these middle D and G strings and have it sound like the same guitar. Bob later applied some of his short-scale ideas to the 710ce-L9 limited in 2005, and it proved to be a winner. Like the short-scale GC, the slinkier feel allowed players to lighten up on their attack and play up the neck. It gave the Dreadnought more versatility than it had ever seen. Short-scale or standard, the Taylor Dreadnought delivers a vintage sound for the 21st Century. Play a Dreadnought if: You re a flatpicker or strummer looking for a potent, traditional sound.
