Seven years ago, I visited
Chuck Wayne at his house with one of his good friends. While we
were there, Chuck showed us some of his guitars. I immediately fell
in love with one of these guitars. It was a classical guitar built
in 1966 by Manouk Papazian. Only a few months later and just before
Chuck Wayne passed away, he sold this amazing guitar to me. I was
totally blown away by the sound and beauty of this instrument. I
was later informed by Bucky Pizzarelli that he owns a guitar just
like the one I now own, and that Manouk built three of these guitars
in 1966. One was built for Chuck Wayne; one was built for Bucky
Pizzarelli; and one was built for Tony Mattola.
I have seen and played hundreds of classical
guitars in my lifetime including names like Contreras, Ramirez
and Fleta. I am still completely amazed by the quality of the
instruments created by Manouk Papazian. It has been so exciting
for me to continue to discover more about this amazing instrument
builder who worked out of New York.
Recently, I was fortunate to have the pleasure
of talking with Manouk's son, John Papazian. John, who is a true
gentleman, invited me to his home to show me his collection of
his father's instruments. This collection includes guitars, lutes,
violins, violas, cellos and vihuelas. All of these beautiful instruments
are in perfect condition and are made of the most amazing woods.
All of these pieces are true jewels.
I have come to an agreement with John to
become the sole distributor of Manouk Papazian's remaining instruments.
I am extremely proud and honored to have the unique opportunity
to share these instruments with talented musicians who can truly
appreciate this great man's art.
