Gibson (1985) proto-type Super 400CES the "Kenny Burrell signature model" (Midnight Blue)
This Beautiful Gibson proto-type for the “Kenny Burrell signature model” that never went into production was made by James Hutchins in Nov. 1985. to Kenny’s specs.
Kenny Burrell is a highly popular performer, he has won several jazz polls in Japan and the United Kingdom as well as the United States.
He has recorded about 40 albums, including Midnight Blue (1967), Blue Lights, Guitar Forms, Sunup To Sundown (1990), Soft Winds (1993), Then Along Came Kenny (1993), and Lotus Blossom (1995).
As of 2007, Burrell has served as Director of Jazz Studies at UCLA, mentoring such notable alumni as Gretchen Parlato and Kalil Wilson. Burrell teaches a course entitled “Ellingtonia”, examining the life and accomplishments of Duke Ellington.

Gibson (1997) Custom L-5e
It doesn’t get much better than this! This stunning custom L-5e has what has to be the most heavily quilted set of maple we’ve ever seen. It would have been a shame to cover such beauty with the sunburst so often seen on L-5 so Gibson applied only the lightest vintage toner to this “citation” grade piece of wood.
The hand carved top is of select spruce, with tight even grain and a good bit of “silking”. The five piece neck is flamed beyond belief.
But enough about the wood. This thing sounds incredible! Although is equipped with a gold-plated “Johnny Smith” style pickup, a guitar like this remind us that the best L-5s were acoustic instruments.

Megas (1996) Athena Archtop Jazz Guitar (Sunburst)
the Athena is a top of the line 18” archtop guitar from Ted Megas. It features highly figured maple back and sides, beautiful hand carved spruce top, ebony fretboard with figured macassar ebony, pickguard, bridge, tailpiece, and headstock veneer.
This instrument has a huge sound, rich sustain in the mid ranges, and tremendous playability.
The instrument came to us with one expertly repaired crack in the top, but otherwise, is in excellent conditions.
